Issue 4, November 2009: Sustainability – a brief overview and useful knowledge

The theme of our latest e-newsletter is sustainability, a word that seems to be on most social commentators, corporate CEO’s and politicians lips. Interestingly, the word was institutionally recognised over twenty years ago by the United Nations through the adoption of Brundtland Commission recommendations, which basically stated that any future development should “…meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.*

Here in Australia, it is being politically driven through topics such as climate change (including carbon tax and trading scheme), water mismanagement (Murray-Darling Basin), and general environmental protection.

For the SME, considerations regarding sustainability and climate change may sooner, rather than later, be undertaken from an economic perspective as a $$$ value is potentially placed on carbon which, in turn, could effect the cost of all products and services.

Below is a list of tags with links covering a range of sustainability topics that may assist you and your business with some up and coming sustainable challenges.
